Altered Love Bird…

Jan 15, 2009 by

YAY… it is finally time to start… I am so excited to share these projects with you. Trying to decide which project to start with first was quite the challenge but I kept going back to this little cutie and must admit it is one of my favorites. So lets get started and have two weeks of fun creating sweet little projects for your Valentine.

I think this altered bird is just the cutest and sitting there accenting my pink feather tree makes it even cuter. There are so many possibilities for this project. It could be attached to a garland, placed into a floral arrangement or even clipped onto the edge of a plate greeting a Valentine’s Day brunch or dinner guest. You can make one or create a flock it is up to you. Just have fun and let the glitter start flying. I can’t wait to see what you create.

Make sure you post your finished projects in the gallery because a RAK will be given to one lucky winner near the end of the workshop.

“Be Mine” Altered Office Tag…

Jan 19, 2009 by

This is one of my favorite projects in this workshop. I love it’s simple feel. Reminds me of a possible Valentine my grandmother would have made for my grandfather. I also like the little fingerprint smudges placed to resemble that of someone who just finished eating a little chocolate sweet.

Altered Tag

Office Tag
Miniature Flower Bunch
Velvet Trim
Brown & White Baker’s Twine
Small Rhinestone
Ledger Paper
Dresden Trim (Pink)
ColorBox Fluid Chalk Ink (Creamy Brown)
Adhesive

Tools Needed:
Scissors
Distressing Tool (Tim Holtz has a great one)

Instructions:
1. Optional: Using a sewing machine sew a straight stitch all along the inner edge of your tag
2. Distress and lightly ink the edges of your tag
3. Adhere a small bunch of flowers to the center of your tag
4. Cut a strip of velvet trim approx. 1.5″, trim each end
5. Adhere over stem of flower bunch, attach twine bow on top of velvet trim, attach rhinestone to center of twine bow

Altered Office Tag

6. Type or print “Be Mine” onto ledger paper
7. Distress and lightly ink edges
8. Adhere saying to tag just below flower bunch
9. To make it look as though someone picked up the tag with a little chocolate on their fingers just add a slight amount of Creamy Brown Ink to your fingertips and gently touch the tag so you transfer a slight fingerprint.

First you might want to practice on a scrap piece of paper. Once you get the inked fingerprint the shade you want go for the tag.

Felt Heart Ornament…

Jan 21, 2009 by

This simple to create felt ornament can be used to decorate a bottle of wine during a Valentine’s Day dinner or given to a friend with a sweet sentiment written on the back. I think several of these grouped together and placed on a feather tree or plain wired type tree would look very sweet as a Valentine’s Day centerpiece. Several could even be strung together from baker’s twine to create a little garland. I love the simplistic look of red felt next to an old book page. Something so sweet about this combination that always makes me think of years past.
